Tutor Agreement
This applies if you offer tutoring, exam prep or coaching on Kite, along with the Terms of Service.
Qualifications and approval
- Everything you tell us about your education, experience and identity must be true. Only list what you can prove if we ask.
- Kite reviews your application before you can take bookings. We may ask for more, or say no.
- A verified label only appears after Kite has really checked your credentials. Never suggest you’re verified otherwise.
- Being approved doesn’t make you Kite’s employee. You’re an independent tutor. You choose your hours, prices and methods, and you’re responsible for your own taxes.
Fees and payouts
- Your account is free. There’s no membership fee.
- Kite keeps 15% of eligible paid booking earnings.
- The first 50 approved tutors pay 10% for 6 months, counted from approval. After that, the standard rate applies to newly confirmed bookings.
- Kite pays payment-processing costs out of its own commission.
- A booking keeps the rate it was confirmed at, even if rates change later.
- Your share moves into your balance once a lesson is completed and the 48-hour review period has passed with no open dispute.
- You can withdraw from your balance once in any 24 hours. The minimum withdrawal is $40.
- If a student is refunded after you’ve withdrawn that money, the amount comes off your balance.
- Payments and payouts are samples for now, and no real money moves. When real payments start, you’ll enter bank and identity details on the payment company’s own site, never on Kite.
Cancellations and no-shows
- You can cancel an upcoming lesson, but the student gets a full refund, and your cancellations are recorded on your account.
- If you don’t show up, the student is refunded and it’s recorded as a tutor no-show.
- Repeated cancellations or no-shows can lead to a suspension.
- Lessons can be moved freely until 24 hours before they start. After that, the other person has to agree.
- Keep your availability up to date. Add time off before it happens, and message students about any bookings it affects.
Lesson materials
- You keep ownership of the materials you create. You let Kite store them and show them to your students.
- Only use materials you have the right to share. Don’t upload copyrighted textbooks, or exam questions you aren’t allowed to share.
- Students can use what you give them for their own learning.
Conduct
- Follow the Safety and Reporting Policy.
- Keep lessons, messages and payments on Kite. Never ask a student to pay you another way, or to leave Kite to avoid fees.
- Don’t ask a student for their password, or for personal contact details you don’t need.
- Don’t do a student’s graded work for them, and don’t guarantee admission or a score.
- Keep what you learn about students private.
- Don’t pay for, write or pressure anyone into a review. You can respond to reviews publicly and politely.
Ending this agreement
You can stop at any time by hiding your profile or deleting your account. Upcoming lessons are cancelled and refunded when you delete it. Kite can suspend you for breaking this agreement, and we’ll usually tell you why. Earnings you’re eligible for aren’t lost because you left, unless they’re under dispute or linked to fraud.
