Privacy Policy
What we collect, why we collect it, who can see it, how long we keep it, and how to have it deleted. Kite doesn’t sell your information or show ads.
What we collect
- Your account: your name, email address, phone number, time zone, the kind of account you have, your confirmation that you’re 18 or older, and when you agreed to our policies. Your password is stored only as a one-way scrambled value, so nobody at Kite can read it.
- Google or Apple sign-in: if you use them, we receive your name, email address and an ID for your account with them. We never see your Google or Apple password. Apple may give us a private relay address instead of your real email.
- Students: if you choose to enter it, your college, degree, major, courses, grades, GPA, test plans and scores, target schools and experience hours.
- Tutors: your legal name, city and state, degrees and qualifications, background, experience, photo, services, prices, availability, bookings and earnings.
- Employers, clinics and professionals: your organization’s details, your profession and credentials, license details, and your listings and applicants.
- What you do on Kite: bookings, payment records, messages, reviews, reports, assignments and files you upload.
- Security information: your internet address, the approximate city it points to, the kind of device and browser you use, and sign-in attempts.
- Cookies: see the Cookie Notice.
We don’t ask for home addresses, Social Security numbers or transcripts, and we don’t track your location. When you sign in or change your password, we look up the approximate city your internet address points to, so we can warn you about a sign-in that may not be you. That lookup happens on our own server with a database from DB-IP (db-ip.com), and your address isn’t sent anywhere. When real payments are connected, a payment company collects card and bank details on its own site. Kite never stores them.
How we use it
- To run your account and show your pathway, bookings and messages.
- To connect students with tutors, hosts and opportunities.
- To send emails you need, like verification codes, password resets, booking notices and security warnings.
- To review tutors, employers and professionals before they can use Kite.
- To keep Kite safe: spotting stolen accounts, fake accounts, scams and breaches of our rules.
- To answer you when you contact us, and to follow the law.
We don’t use your information for advertising, and we don’t sell it or share it for advertising.
Automatic safety checks on messages
To protect people, Kite automatically checks messages for signs of payments outside Kite, moving a conversation off Kite, sharing phone numbers or email addresses, and requests for passwords or codes. These checks never block or change a message. If one matches, a short excerpt is shown to Kite’s administrators, who decide whether anything needs doing. Administrators can also read a conversation when they’re looking into a report.
Who can see what
- Public: tutor, host and organization profiles and listings.
- Other members: tutors and hosts see a student’s first name and last initial. Tutors also see that student’s bookings, messages and the assignments they set. Hosts see what a student sends them, for their own listings only.
- Never shown to other members: your email address, phone number, courses, GPA and target schools.
- Kite’s administrators: can see records to run the service. What they change is recorded in an audit log.
Companies that help us run Kite
We share only what each one needs to do its job:
- Hostinger hosts the website, its data and our email.
- Google and Apple handle sign-in, only if you choose to use them.
- An AI provider receives the text you ask an AI feature to work on, only when you use one. AI suggestions are labelled, and a person reviews them before they’re used.
- A payment company will handle payments once real payments are connected. Today, Kite’s checkout is a sample and no money moves.
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect someone’s safety, or as part of selling or reorganizing the business. If that happens, this policy keeps applying to your information until you’re told otherwise.
How long we keep it
- Your account information stays until you delete your account.
- Security information is removed after 90 days.
- Email codes stop working after 10 minutes and are removed soon after.
- The audit log of administrator actions is kept for as long as Kite runs, so that decisions can be checked later.
- After you delete your account, past bookings, payment records, reviews and messages stay under “Deleted user”, because the other person and our accounting records still rely on them.
How to delete your information
Go to Settings, then Delete my account. We’ll ask you to confirm by email, because deleting can’t be undone. Upcoming sessions are cancelled and refunded first. If you can’t log in, email support@getkite.education from the address on your account.
Your other choices
- Download a copy of your information from Settings at any time.
- Correct your details from your profile and Settings.
- Choose which notifications you get in Settings.
- Depending on where you live, you may have other rights over your information. Email us and we’ll respond within the time the law requires.
Age
Kite is for people 18 and older. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you believe someone under 18 has an account, tell us and we’ll remove it.
How we protect it
We use encrypted connections, scrambled passwords, limits on repeated attempts, private file storage, automatic sessions that end, and a second login step for administrators. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your information, we’ll tell you as the law requires.
Changes
If we make an important change, we’ll ask you to agree again the next time you visit. The date at the bottom of this page shows the latest version.
