Student and Parent Terms

How booking, attendance and refunds work, and what you can expect. This applies along with the Terms of Service.

For parents and guardians

Kite accounts are for people 18 and older, so an account must belong to the adult student using it. Parents and guardians are welcome to help with planning and to pay for an adult student’s lessons, but please don’t create an account for a child. If you think someone under 18 has an account, tell us and we’ll remove it.

Booking a lesson

Some tutors confirm straight away. You have 30 minutes to pay, or the time is released.
Other tutors review your request first. Once they approve, you have 48 hours to pay, or the request ends.
Your lesson is confirmed once you’ve paid.
Payments are samples for now, and no real money moves. We’ll tell you before real payments start.

Attendance

Be on time and ready, in a quiet place, with what your tutor asked you to bring.
If you can’t make it, cancel or move the lesson as early as you can, out of respect for your tutor’s time.
Under our current policy, you aren’t charged for a lesson recorded as a student no-show. Repeatedly missing or cancelling lessons can lead us to look into your account.

Moving a lesson

You can move a lesson yourself until 24 hours before it starts, if your tutor is free. After that, your tutor has to agree to the new time.

Refunds

You cancel before a lesson starts: full refund, however late it is.
Your tutor cancels, or doesn’t show up: full refund.
Something went wrong with a lesson: after your tutor marks a lesson as completed, you have 48 hours to confirm it or report a problem. Kite looks at reported lessons and decides whether to refund you.
Kite Plus: cancel any time. You keep it until the end of the period you paid for.

What you can expect from tutors

A tutor who has been reviewed by Kite before taking bookings. A verified label means we really checked their credentials.
A clear price and service before you pay.
Respect, punctuality, and the lesson you booked.
Your private details stay private. Tutors see your first name and last initial, not your email, phone number, GPA or target schools.

What Kite can’t promise

Admission, a score or a grade. Kite offers planning guidance only.
That a school’s requirements are unchanged. Check with the school. We label what we’ve verified.
Clinical or shadowing hours. Hours you log are your own record, and Kite doesn’t certify them.

Free and Plus accounts

Free accounts include 3 shadowing and 3 research applications at a time, and a limit on saved schools and opportunities. Pricing explains what Kite Plus adds.

Your work and your safety

Keep your work your own. Tutors can teach you, but shouldn’t complete graded work for you. Follow your school’s rules.
Keep messages and payments on Kite. If anyone asks you to pay another way, please tell us.
